There are various Railcards available which entitle the holder to off-peak discounted rail travel.
From 18 May 2008 Railcard discounts are extended to all Advance Standard Class fares for 16-25, Family & Friends, Senior, HM Forces and Disabled Persons Railcards. Railcard discounts are also available for all Advance First Class fares for Senior, HM Forces and Disabled Persons Railcards and on some Advance First Class fares for 16-25 Railcard holders (CrossCountry, East Midlands Trains, First Great Western, National Express East Coast and Virgin Trains services).
Please note that not every ticket type is available for every journey that you may wish to make, and that some time and train restrictions and/or minimum fares may apply. Railcard discounts do not apply to tickets bought on trains. For further information and terms and conditions, pick up the relevant Railcard leaflet at any staffed station.
Valid for persons aged 60 and over, this railcard entitles the holder to a third off most Standard and First Class ticket types all over Britain, including the popular Cheap Day Singles, Returns and Saver fares. A Senior Railcard can also be used to buy through tickets on many bus and ship links.
The price for a Senior Railcard is £24 for a year (price valid from 2nd January 2008 until further notice)

Four adults and four children can travel on the Family and Friends railcard. At least one named adult on the card (you can have one or two named adults on the card), and at least one child have to travel at all times. You can save a third on most adult rail fares and 60% on the cost of child fares. If there is someone who often takes your children out - granny, a friend or childminder - they can be the second named cardholder.

You can apply for a 16-25 Railcard if you are aged between 16 and 25, or a mature student (providing you are in full-time education).
A 16-25 Railcard will entitle you to discounts of one third on most ticket types all over Britain, including the popular Cheap Day Singles, Returns and Saver fares. You can also use a 16-25 Railcard to buy through tickets on many bus and ship links.

If you have a disability that makes travelling by train difficult you may qualify for the Disabled Persons Railcard. The Disabled Persons Railcard allows you - and an adult companion with you - to get a 1/3 off most Standard and First Class fares throughout Great Britain.
Buy a one year Disabled Persons rail card for £18, take a journey that usually costs £54 and the card has paid for itself. A three year card is also available for £48.

If you travel by train in South East England for leisure purposes, for just £20 you can save 1/3 off rail fares. Save 60% off kids fares too. To apply for a Network Railcard, pick up a leaflet at any staffed rail station or rail appointed Travel Agent in the Network Railcard area. Or you can buy one over the phone at the Customer Services Centre (visit the Contact Us page for details).

If you are applying for a Railcard for the first time, you will need to pick up and complete an application form from any staffed station. Complete the form and take it to your nearest staffed station or rail appointed Travel Agent. Alternatively you can click on the relevant Railcard links above and buy your railcard online.
If you are renewing any type of Railcard, you can either call the Customer Services Centre (visit the Contact Us page for details), or call in at a staffed station or rail appointed Travel Agent. Please have your existing railcard with you. Renewals can be made up to one month in advance. Please ensure you allow enough time before your journey for your Railcard to reach you.
Provided you keep the stamped receipt attached to your Railcard application, your Railcard can be replaced at any staffed station. There is currently a £5 administration fee to replace a lost Railcard. However, if your Railcard is stolen and you obtain a police crime reference number/documentation, then a free replacement will normally be made.
Please note that you must pay the full fare until you receive your new Railcard.
