The capital of the 'Essex Sunshine Coast', Clacton is a popular seaside town with tree-lined streets, sand/shingle beaches and beautiful clifftop gardens.

Things to see and do in Clacton-on-Sea

Attractions

Wander along the 19th century Pier with its amusement arcades, shops and stunning views of the coastline. Enjoy water sports on 7 miles of sand/shingle beaches or come face to face with the fishy inhabitants of SeaQuarium.

Take a walk along the cliff top at Holland Haven Country Park or challenge the family to a game of crazy golf. Let the kids run loose in Play Rascals, the fun indoor playground or go racing at IndiKart, the indoor karting track.

Out and about

Jump on the train to the quiet seaside town of Frinton-on-Sea. Tree-lined avenues sweep down to the elegant Esplanade and cliff-top greensward. The sandy beach is quiet and secluded. Connaught Avenue - the main shopping street has been dubbed the 'Bond Street' of East Anglia.

Alternatively, head to Walton-on-the-Naze, a family seaside resort with sandy beaches, seafront gardens and quaint narrow streets. The pier is the second longest in England, offering fairground rides, ten pin bowling and sea angling.

Just to the north is The Naze, an unspoilt headland of heath, saltmarshes and sandy beaches - it's 70 feet high cliffs are being eroded away.

Shopping and culture

Go bargain hunting at the Clacton Factory Outlet or head to the high street to explore department stores including John Lewis and Marks and Spencers.

Catch a show at Princes Theatre, the largest multi-purpose venue of its kind in North Essex or catch a flick at the cinema. Then grab a bite at one of the many restaurants or just have a drink in a bar or pub.
