Investment Delivers a Makeover for Shelford

National Express East Anglia (NXEA) and Network Rail have been working in partnership to improve the environment and passenger facilities for customers using Shelford station in Cambridgeshire, as part of a £380k investment by Network Rail.

The improvement work completed at the station includes:

  • The complete resurfacing of platforms 1 and 2.
  • The installation of tactile paving as part of the platform resurfacing.
  • The re-roofing of the ticket office.
  • The waiting area on the London-bound platform has been re-decorated improving the overall environment for customers.

Shelford is a busy station situated on the NXEA Cambridge to London Liverpool Street route and is used by commuters and daytrippers to London, as well as those making local journeys into Cambridge, which is just a 5 minute train ride away.

Alan Neville National Express East Anglia’s Area Manager for the Ely area said:

“I am very pleased with the work that has been completed at Shelford, improving the station environment and facilities for our customers. The station is much brighter and more welcoming and the project was completed on schedule with the minimum of disturbance to customers.”

Andrew Munden, Network Rail route director for Anglia, said: “The investment made at Shelford has made the station brighter, safer and much more pleasant for passengers on this busy line. This is yet another example of the improvements being made by Network Rail at stations across the country in partnership with train operators.”
