National Express East Anglia Improves Performance Over Late Summer Period

23 September 2008

National Express East Anglia recorded an improved level of train service performance in the most recent four-week performance period ending 13 September 2008.

Overall train service performance during this period saw average punctuality across the National Express East Anglia network at 92.5%, with all service routes, Mainline, Metro & Southend, Rural, Stansted Express and West Anglia recording punctuality over 90% during the period.

Average punctuality for the previous two four-week periods covering July and August 2008 saw punctuality at 91.5% and 91.8% respectively, with this improving trend extending into the most recent four-week performance period as highlighted above.

In August, National Express East Anglia and Network Rail launched a second Joint Improvement Plan with the aim of implementing a number of key actions to improve train service performance across the National Express East Anglia network. The first Improvement Plan was launched in 2007 to deliver improvements in the moving annual average performance over the past year to a level of 90% and this has been successfully achieved with the average punctuality for all services increasing from 87.5% to a current 90.4%. The next challenge in moving forward is to deliver an annual average of 91% punctuality across the network.

The Plan highlights 10 key actions that both the train operator and Network Rail are taking forward in tackling the issues that have caused the most problems over the past year, such as the most frequent infrastructure failures, technical faults that can cause train failures, fatalities and information provision during disruption.

Andrew Chivers, Managing Director, National Express East Anglia commented:

‘The improved punctuality achieved over recent weeks on the National Express East Anglia network is extremely encouraging and reflects the joint work we are taking forward with Network Rail. We are committed to focussing on key areas of performance to help improve train service punctuality across our network.

‘We recognise that delivering these good levels of punctuality on a consistent and regular basis is what our customers expect. With the more challenging autumn and winter months approaching, we are continuing to concentrate all our efforts with the aim of achieving higher and more sustained levels of punctuality to meet our customers’ expectations.’
