Punctuality and reliability
What are you doing to improve punctuality and make trains more reliable?
We plan to build on the success of our Joint Performance Improvement Plan with Network Rail to further raise performance standards. Although we have raised punctuality from around 85% at the start of the franchise in 2004 to around 90% now, we still suffer too many major disruptions. We want to achieve greater consistency and fewer major problems.
View our Performance Bar for our latest PPM (Public Performance Measure) figures here. This is a measure of all scheduled trains that have called at all their booked stations and arrived at final destination within 5 minutes of scheduled time (within 10 minutes for our Intercity services).
We are investing in extra trains and crew, additional engineers to repair trains and more resources in our Control office to help manage real time problems and minimize delays. We are also continuing to modify our trains to make them more reliable. Network Rail is working on plans to further improve the reliability of track, signalling and overhead line equipment. Unfortunately this will mean frequent closures of sections of track – especially overnight and on Sundays, check our Service Updates section for details of planned engineering work. We will do all we can to minimise the impact of such upgrade work on your journey.
